With a lineage dating back to the early 1960s, the venerable PK-series general purpose machine gun has seen service in conflict zones worldwide from its debut.

PKM gunners are found at the squad level throughout the Ukrainian armed forces, using either 100-round or 250-round boxes as their primary ammunition source. Extra ammunition is often spread-loaded throughout the squad so as to provide a constant base of fire for the unit.
